Can Joyfax Server support VOIP? |
|
|
VoIP is a cost effective solution to your telephony needs. It allows you to make cheap calls to anyone, anywhere in the world using your PC or a VoIP Phone handset. However, many people find that they do encounter intermittent or even significant issues with reliably sending and receiving faxes using VOIP. Among other factors beyond the control of the Joyfax Server software, reliability is going to be based on the quality of the modem hardware used, quality and speed of the Internet connection and quality of the VOIP provider's telephone service.
If you encounter problems with sending or receiving faxes over a VOIP connection you may want to try the following:
- Choose a better VOIP service provider
When choosing a provider, it is usually better to pick one who offers service specifically in your area, but if you are calling a particular country a significant amount, choosing a provider from that country can potentially further reduce your costs. Below is a list of recommended SIP providers that have been tested to work with Fax Serer Plus:
- Use a different modem
Some customers with problems sending and receiving faxes with VOIP have reported that replacing their existing modem with a different model/brand resolved problems they were encountering with faxes failing. This is especially true in cases where software based “softmodems” were used and replaced with higher quality controller based modems.
- Lower your fax speed
Some customers have reported that changing the transmission and receiving fax speeds to 9600 bps appears to compensate for some VOIP issues. You may want to try this option to see if it helps in your situation. To change the default fax speed settings:
- Open Phone and Modem Options in Control Panel;
- On the Modems tab, click the modem that you want to configure, then click Properties;
- On the Modem tab, in the Maximum Port Speed list, select 9600 for the modem.
- Try enabling Error Correction Mode
Error Correction (EC) mode can improve fax transmission quality by verifying the data received is the same as the data sent. This may help in cases where VOIP connections result in data packet loss. To enable Error Correction (EC) mode support:
- Open Phone and Modem Options in Control Panel;
- On the Modems tab, click the modem that you want to configure, then click Properties;
- On the Advanced tab, click the Change Default Preferences... button;
- In Data Protocol list, select Forced EC.
